Shiva Shakti

In the Tantric tradition the name given to consciousness is Shiva and its power to create is called Shakti. Shiva is the divine masculine and Shakti the divine feminine. Shiva is pure awareness, pure knowing. Shakti is the life force energy of Shiva through which her power creates the entire universe. Shiva and Shakti are not two they are one like two sides of a coin or like the power of fire is to burn, Shakti is Shivas power. Through Shakti’s power Shiva manifests as the world mountains, oceans, humans, animals, trees, plants the moon and the stars, the entire universe is a pulsing vibration of energy. The nature of energy is vibration, changeable and transformative. What appears to be solid matter is in fact energy vibration.

Skati is the power of the mind it is through the mind that the illusion of separation is created. Through her power we perceive the different frequencies of her energy as forms. She is the power of language that separates the forms by names, creating the illusion of separation. Through a part of the mind called the aham kara which is sanskrit for the I maker that a sence of self is created. She is one energy vibrating at different frequencies perceived through the 5 senses of the body and the mind as a multitude of colours, shapes, sounds, smells, tastes and touch. Shakti is the pulsing vibration of emotions, our internal guidance system.

Shiva is the divine masculine pure consciousness the source of its energy vibration. Consciousness expressing its self through its own power to create, this is the beautiful mystery of life. Self realisation is when consciousness becomes aware of itself as pure consciousness. Tantra is a means to self realisation which liberates consciousness from the belief of being a separate individual body mind. Through the transformative process of self realisation the illusion of separation dissolves and the nature of reality is revealed.
